Computer Based Training
Becoming a successful Guest Service Representative (GSR) for Toot'n Totum starts with paid Computer Based Training (CBT).
Using innovative software to create a virtual university, Team Members work at a computer, at their own pace, and are trained in areas of benefits, store equipment, policies, procedures, alcohol/tobacco laws, and other skills pertinent to the position. CBT incorporates audio and video clips with text and graphics to make the information fun to learn and easy to remember.
At Toot'n Totum, each Team Member must complete and pass the state approved seller training programs on alcohol and tobacco before they can begin work in a store.
This training course follows a state mandated curriculum, provided by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and takes approximately 4 hours to complete. In this course, Team Members learn not only the laws regarding the sale of alcohol to minors and intoxicated persons, but also how to properly check identification, how to monitor their guests, and how to refuse a sale if necessary. After completing and passing this course, Team Members are certified to sell alcoholic beverages for two years in any establishment within the state of Texas.
The tobacco seller training course follows guidelines provided by the State Comptroller. In this two hour course, Team Members are instructed on the state and federal laws regarding the sale of tobacco, how to properly identify minors, and the consequences of selling to a minor.
In addition to the alcohol and tobacco courses, Team Members also receive CBT training on the skills necessary to be an outstanding Guest Service Representative. They are introduced to situations that might occur and equipment that is used on a daily basis. Instruction on procedures such as clocking in and out, shift change reports, and auditmaster help ease the transition to in-store training. It takes approximately one day to complete the CBT training courses, after which the Guest Service Representative is assigned to a Trainer.
Store Orientation
After Team Members have successfully completed the CBT and received their alcohol/tobacco certification, the Team Member is placed in a store for further training and orientation. This additional training is necessary to familiarize the Team Member with store operations and guest service. They work side by side with a Trainer and often in a group of other new GSR's.
Support Center
In addition to the above, the Support Center and HR departments are available to all Team Members to assist in any way during employment with Toot'n Totum.
